Tale of a place

Alberto Locatelli

_biography
_contact

The narration of the transformation of a workspace in a place animated by the students that every day move across it.

With no descriptive nor analytic pretence Locatelli proposes a narration of livesthat unrolls inside university spaces. The most central and prestigious university sites in Milan are told through the lively traces of the moltitudes that orbit around them. A narration that tells the transformation of the space in a place: architecture becomes a gatherer of lives.
Locatelli composes each image through the combination of two pictures and of two photographic languages: on one side the architecture photography tells us about a space, empty or with moving prensences; on the other hand the still life photography freezes a detail, concentrating our attention on the punctum that immediately informs us about the practice that turns a space into a place.
As the author himself writes "marvellous frescos, ancient icehouses, apparently light glass and iron plots are the backgrounds for the life swarming about in lecture halls and corridors. Apparently neutral spaces lead our steps and our gazes, with them they blend weaving a net that is the sign of our capacity to adapt things and of adapting ourselves."

Text by Alberto Locatelli and Daniele Pennati
